The first concert on June 23, 2013, was attended by 60 adults and 30 children. Music was provided by Sarah Goslee Reed with her band Firefly. The kids danced and everyone had a wonderful time. It was a full moon, and SPI contributed information about the moon and moon plants. Children recycled newspaper into small flower pots, and transplanted moon plant seedlings into the pots. All the moon plants disappeared, and we ran out of programs!
The July 21 concert SPI activity was bubbles. The music was provided by Miss B. Haven, a jazz trio from Columbus. This concert had many previous attendees as well as new ones. Adult numbers (65) were slightly increased from the first show and children slightly less (25).
August’s concert was on the 18th. The music was provided by Padula Oblongata. The music was very well received, and the band added guest Andrew Clarkson, who drew an additional college crowd. Jim Marth presented yo yo science at intermission. The seating area was full, surpassing our expectations with over 100 adults and approximately 50 kids (it became very difficult to count). Forty-eight yo yos were provided to families or individual children and were distributed as fairly as possible until we ran out. Everyone, young and old, loved the yo yo activity!
